assessments
Our school applies the criteria-based assessment (CBA) that was adopted by the Ministry of Education and Science so as to generate our students' termly and yearly marks. CBA is the process of evaluating (and grading) the learning of students against a set of pre-specified qualities or criteria, without reference to the achievement of others (Brown, 1998; Harvey, 2004).
CBA involves two types of assessment throughout the term - formative and summative.

The goal of formative assessment is to monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning. More specifically, formative assessments:
• help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work
• help faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems immediately

The goal of summative assessment is to evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. So, at the end of a specific unit or chapter of the curriculum teachers conduct summative assessment for unit (all of these assessment tools make up the 50% of the term mark); whilst, at the end of the term, they conduct summative assessment for term which constitutes for 50% of the term mark.

Term and year marks are calculated in accordance with the following index:
Students' marks are available in school management system Kundelik.kz and Edupage.org. When a relevant mark is entered into the system, the student and his/her parent receives a notification via a mobile application if such is installed on their mobile devices.
